Dr Joan Ní Gabhann-Dromgoole obtained her BSc Hons from Dublin Institute of Technology Kevin Street and PhD from University College Dublin. She began a postdoctoral fellowship in the Molecular Immunology Research Group in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Therapeutics, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2007. Dr Ní Gabhann-Dromgoole was awarded an Honorary Lectureship in Biochemistry in 2012. In 2015 Dr Ní Gabhann-Dromgoole began a lectureship in Ophthalmology and Immunology in RCSI. She has published extensively in the area of immunology-related research. Dr Ní Gabhann-Dromgoole is the Scientific Lead of the Ocular Immunology Research Group (OIRG) in RCSI. Her research focuses on identifying novel regulators of inflammatory responses, particularly in the field of autoimmunity, graft versus host disease and dry eye disease. It is hoped these investigations will lead to novel treatments for the management of Sjögren’s Disease.
